What is Addiction?

Addiction is a chronic, relapsing disease characterized by compulsive drug or alcohol use despite harmful consequences. Our addiction treatment program focuses on addressing the underlying factors contributing to addiction, helping individuals break free from the cycle of substance abuse and rebuild their lives.

Addiction Treatment Services

Patients enrolled in the Office Based Medication Assisted Program (OBMAT) will be required to attend treatment services based on their phase level in the program.

Phase I – patients in early recovery will attend 5 treatment sessions each month (2 individual and 3 group therapy sessions).  Patients in Phase I will see the physician weekly and will not receive more than a 1-week prescription of medication. Patients in Phase I will have a urine drug screen weekly to monitor compliance with program requirements.

Phase II – patients in this phase will attend 4 treatment sessions each month (2 individual and 2 group therapy sessions).  Patients in Phase II will see the physician every 2 weeks and will receive a 1-week prescription with 1 refill. Patients in Phase II will have random urine drug screens and call backs (to verify that the prescription medication is being taken as prescribed).  Patients struggling at this Phase will be moved back to Phase I for more support.

Phase III- patients in this phase will attend 3 treatment sessions each month (1 individual and 2 group therapy sessions).  Patients in Phase III will see the physician every 3 weeks and will receive a 1-week prescription with 2 refills. Patients in Phase III will have random urine drug screens and call backs (to verify that the prescription medication is being taken as prescribed).  Patients struggling at this Phase will be moved back to a lower Phase for more support.

All therapy services will be conducted using evidenced based practice interventions that have been proven effective with this patient population, i.e., Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, etc.

The Chesapeake Healthcare Center provides Suboxone® treatment to adults who are physically addicted to pain medication as well as other opioids like heroin. We know that everyone is unique so in order to provide the best treatment option for every patient, we offer several different medication options in conjunction with the clinical treatment program.

Suboxone:Comprised of naloxone and buprenorphine as its active ingredients, Suboxone is given to lower withdrawal symptoms while also lessening cravings for additional opioids. Should a patient attempt to abuse other opioids while taking Suboxone, withdrawal symptoms will become apparent.
Subutex:With buprenorphine as its active component, Subutex is a partial opioid agonist-antagonist given to diminish withdrawal symptoms and lessen opioid cravings by barring the effects of opioids within the brain.
Vivitrol:Vivitrol is a non-narcotic, non-addictive injectable medication that consists naltrexone as its active ingredient. Vivitrol is given to aid patients in reducing opioid cravings, as well as diminishing the symptoms of withdrawal commonly associated with recovery. The specific medication used, as well as the dosage required, will vary for each patient based on his or her individual needs. Medications and dosages can be altered throughout the course of treatment should a patient’s needs change.
